In addition to repaying the mortgage, the corporation continues to raise funds for important projects necessary to the preservation and stabilization of the building and the collection of historic objects. With grand funds and donations from generous local businesses, the building has been insulated, the exterior painted, a new furnace installed, the roof replaced and chimney rebuilt. We have also received recommendations from a team of noted conservators regarding the preservation of the collection. Much has been accomplished, but much remains to be done. In 2001 the corporation established a permanent endowment fund into which a percentage of net receipts from each fund-raising event is deposited. These funds will be invested to provide income for the continued support of the organization and to secure the future use, condition, and security of the building and its contents. The building has been leased and the operators are continuing the traditions of the country store where one can enjoy a cup of coffee and conversation. The establishment of a deli with an extensive menu, New Hampshire made products and handicrafts and of course the famous Robie's cheese wheel all add to the appeal of the store as a destination. Re-establishment of the Dock from the early 1800s is now in the plans to allow the river boat traffic access to the store. The addition of a dock overlooking the Merrimack River will provide a view for guests while they enjoy some of the store's delicacies. |
Robie's
provides for all of us that sense of place, time, and community not often
seen in these days of strip malls and minimarts. We must be sure that
this landmark and its place in our stat's history are preserved.
Hundreds of people have pledged to assist us by donating their time, goods,
services, or money. We can reach our goals. Our success, however, depends on broad community and business support. Won't you please help? |
