Dear Mr. Schroeder:

The New Hampshire Division of Historical Resources (the State Historic Preservation Office) strongly supports the preservation of Robie's Country Store. We applaud the efforts of the Historic Preservation Corporation to preserve the building and reanimate it with a business enterprise that will return the store to its traditional place as a focus of community life.

Robie's Country Store is one of the best-preserved and most attractive country stores in New Hampshire. The store's unique location enhances its unchanged turn-of-the-century design and atmosphere. Robie's Store stands on the banks of the Merrimack River, the industrial and commercial artery of central New Hampshire. It is placed at the end of one of the state's most historical highway bridges and adjacent to one of our oldest active rail lines. Robie's Store is not only a landmark in the town of Hooksett, but stands at a transportation crossroads of significance to all of New Hampshire. Its site has been designated a point on New Hampshire's Heritage Trail.

In recognition of the significance of Robie's Store as a remarkably well-preserved country store and as a center of community life, the New Hampshire Division of Historical Resources determined the store to be eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places on February 10, 1999.

Federal standards emphasize the retention of the characteristic features of a historic building and urge the continuation of traditional uses for such structures. The Historic Preservation Corporation is seeking support for a plan that precisely fulfills these standards. The Corporation's commitment to preserve the historical fabric of the building, to conserve the store's furnishings and contents, and to return the building to active use as a store, adheres to the best principles of historic preservation.

The New Hampshire Division of Historical Resources enthusiastically endorses the efforts of Robie's Country Store Historic Preservation Corporation. The Corporation's plans reflect the highest standards of historic preservation and are worthy of support from all entities that are concerned with the conservation and enjoyment of our heritage.
